Finastra launches StandbyX to automate standby letter-of-credit processing
The SaaS product is aimed at U.S. regional and mid-sized banks that want to digitize standby letters of credit without implementing a full trade-finance platform.

Finastra launched StandbyX at Money20/20 in Las Vegas on October 19, 2026, offering a cloud-enabled SaaS product for standby letter-of-credit processing. The initial target is U.S. regional and mid-sized banks that need to modernize a specialized trade-finance workflow without taking on a full platform implementation.
Standby letters of credit are contingent obligations: a bank promises to pay a beneficiary if defined conditions are met, often in support of a commercial contract, lease or other obligation. Processing them requires document review, approvals, amendments, expiry tracking, collateral and risk controls. Much of that work has historically been handled through a mix of core systems, email and manual files.
Finastra says StandbyX brings capabilities from its Trade Innovation platform into a more focused SaaS offering. A narrower product can reduce implementation burden, but banks will still need to connect customer data, define approval policies, preserve audit trails and train staff on the legal and operational requirements of the instrument.
The product is aimed at a market where the main benefit may be control rather than volume. A digital workflow can make upcoming expirations, outstanding obligations and exceptions more visible, helping a bank manage risk and service customers consistently. It does not remove the need for experienced trade-finance staff or eliminate the bank’s obligation to examine documents and honor valid claims.
Finastra’s launch announcement did not disclose customer counts or quantified processing savings. StandbyX’s early test will be whether regional banks can adopt it with less disruption while gaining reliable visibility into standby-letter-of-credit exposure.
