Nium and Relay say their first-year partnership processed more than $500 million
Relay’s small-business customers used Nium’s cross-border infrastructure to send payments to 153 countries, according to the companies.

Nium and Relay said on October 19, 2026 that their first year of partnership had processed more than $500 million in cross-border payments. Relay provides financial tools for small businesses, while Nium supplies the global payments infrastructure behind international transfers.
The companies said Relay customers used the service to send payments to 153 countries and that more than 500 customers were powered by Nium during the period. The figures show the distribution value of embedded payments: a business platform can add international transfers without becoming a correspondent bank or building its own network of local payout connections.
Volume is useful evidence, but it needs context. Processing $500 million does not reveal the number of transactions, average payment size, take rate, foreign-exchange spread, failure rate or profitability of the relationship. Small businesses also care about delivery certainty, transparent pricing, beneficiary verification and how quickly a failed or returned payment is resolved.
Cross-border payment infrastructure remains difficult because every corridor has different banking partners, compliance expectations and settlement behavior. A provider can offer broad geographic reach while still needing to manage sanctions screening, local licensing, currency liquidity and data requirements in each destination market.
The milestone’s significance is therefore distribution and usage rather than a standalone financial result. Nium and Relay say their partnership has moved more than half a billion dollars across international corridors in its first year; the next question is whether the service can retain small-business customers as their payment needs grow more complex.
